Software Testing...

All software to be tested must be RECEIVED in TECHNOLOGY by the LAST FRIDAY of FEBRUARY every year..... Software will be deployed the following school year in the fall.

To give our students, teachers, and administers the best possible computer reliability and support, the District will test all software used on Microsoft Window computers that is used by schools/administration.  Technology will support most software selected by Curriculum, teachers, and administration.  Users need to recognize not all software programs are designed to work in the District's computer environment and may be of poor technical design and cause loss of teaching time or employee productivity.  This will cause frustration for our students, teachers, and staff.

General Guidelines :

Before purchasing, talk to your counterparts at other District schools, they may have a solution.  This could save your school/department and the District money and time.

  • New software needs to be approved by the Principal and the Curriculum Department/Director.  Please consider maintenance support and training costs.  These are extra $$.
  • The person requesting the software purchase will be involved in the software testing to assure that it works the way he/she wants the software to work and will meet the curriculum needs.  Software will not be deployed unless the requestor signs off that the software will meet the intended need.
  • The timelines need to be followed to support all our users.
  • Complete the form in 3189R - Technology Software Copyright and Hardware Management : computer Software Evaluation/Request

Technical Guidelines : (Ask these questions before purchasing.  If you need help with a vendor, please enter a Help Desk ticket or email your Technology Field Support Technician  the name of the company, company phone number and title of the software.  Technology will help you with the technical issues).

  1. Is the software designed for Windows XP?
  2. Does the software require local administrator or power user privileges?  Note:  Software will have problems if it requires these privileges.
  3. Does the software require it to write .dlls' or make changes to the registry as a normal user?  Note:  Software will have problems if it does.
  4. Does the software support current versions of plug-in?

Testing Room...
The test results can be found toward the bottom of this pages.  Software marked with "Summer 07" will be loaded this summer as long as it is tested by curriculum or teaching staff, and no functionality errors are found.  Software testing for teachers and curriculum staff is held in April in HOCHS room 121.

Because this is a classroom and District meeting room, please check the calendar in the Public Folders section of web mail before going to the lab to verify that it is open.  The Unity office or Technology staff can unlock the lab if it should be locked.  The two testing computers will be in the back row of the lab and towards the window.  After logging in to a testing computer, the shortcuts or icons for next year's software can be found by clicking on your i drive and going to the folder called "Desktop_Icons" and then finally to a folder called "Summer 2007".
