Duluth Public Schools and the Duluth Community:  Vision of Excellence 2012

What does educational excellence look like in Duluth?  Where do we want our school district to be within the next several years, given limited resources, and how are we going to get there?

We began our planning process with these important questions - in other words a "big picture" vision, the criteria which define an excellent education in Duluth.

The process began by reviewing data that shows where the district currently stands in relation to six key factors:

  • Student Achievement:  Learning that is engaging for students, accountable for post-secondary readiness, and aligned with student needs.
  • Whole Student Development:  Relevant, rigorous and comprehensive programming that is responsive to student needs.
  • Resource Management:  Integrated technology and facilities in the instruction and connection to students.
  • Community Engagement:  Duluth is recognized as a leader in the field of public education and seen as a key asset of the local community.
  • Staff Learning and Growing:  The recruitment, retention and development of high-quality educational professionals.
  • External Partnerships:  External partnerships that support the district's mission and goals.

Working with the community we determined goals and measure for each of the six factors.  The school board approved these goals and measures, which will now be used in our strategic planning.
