2009 Results:  Overview

Overall attendance, graduation and participation rates were all well above state standards:

Attendance Rate: 96.48%

Graduation Rate for Central, Denfeld, and East 93.05%  (including alternative sites 85.44% )

Participation Rate - Reading 98.96%, Math 98.66%

-- All grades tested outperformed the state in reading.

-- Seven schools scored within the Top 25% statewide:  Congdon Park, Lakewood, Lester Park, Piedmont, Ordean, Homecroft, East

-- Six schools made all their AYP targets:  Congdon Park, Lakewood, Lester Park, Piedmont, Ordean, Lincoln Park

-- Twelve schools didn't make all their AYP targets (see 2009 Results: Details) but almost all improved and made gains of 1 to 10 percentage points:   Central, East, Denfeld, Morgan Park, Woodland, Nettleton, Grant, Lowell, Laura MacArthur, Homecroft, Stowe, ALC

-- How can schools can make gains, outperform the state, or score in the Top 25% statewide and NOT make AYP?   NCLB measurements require all of the following in order to make AYP:

  • All students must meet the Graduation, Attendance, Proficiency and Participation targets.
  •   In addition, students in 8 subgroups* within a school must achieve proficiency and participation targets in both reading and math. If one subgroup doesn't make AYP in one subject, the entire school doesn't make AYP. * Special Education; Free/Reduced Lunch; White; American Indian;  African American; Hispanic; Limited English Proficient, Asian/Pacific Islander

In other words, there are many ways to NOT make AYP.  Some AYP targets are related to large groups of students, some are related to small groups of students.
