Remote Access of your school district network computer account is now available through the use of a product called Blue Coat Systems. Blue Coat allows ISD 709 employees and students to access their network computer account from outside of the district's network domain.
Blue Coat supports:
-
XP Service Pack 2 (or above)
-
VISTA
-
MAC OS (latest versions only)
Blue Coat functionality may be affected by:
-
Bandwidth
-
Individual computer functionality
-
Operating Systems
-
Conflicts with installed software
-
Local firewall/security settings
After several months of testing with approximately 100 district employees, it is believed that Blue Coat should work for the majority of our users. The Technology Department, however, cannot troubleshoot or support home computer issues.
From a computer outside of the Duluth domain (your home, Barnes and Noble, hotel room, coffee shop, etc...), use the Internet and log into:
http://portal.duluth.k12.mn.us/
*This link will NOT work from a computer currently logged into the District's network.
Blue Coat will perform series of tasks to determine if your computer is secure. Blue Coat will also need to install Active X to begin operation. You will be prompted to enter your user name and password which is the same information you would enter at work on a network computer.
Depending upon the programs you are using, Blue Coat may ask you to login again. In some cases, the Help Desk page for example, you will need to use duluth prior to entering your user name.
