    District News

    --Laura Bellamy, Denfeld High School, is one of 12 finalists for the national 2008 Wendy's High School Heisman Award.   The award program recognizes students for excellence in academics, athletics, and community/school leadership.  As a finalist she will attend an awards banquet in New York City in December and Denfeld receives $2000 in her name .     Jim Carlson received the 2008 Middle Level Art Educator Award from the Art Educators of Minnesota.  Jim was chosen for his exceptional advocacy and leaderhip in art education with his involvement in Empty Bowl, the districtwide art show, and various service learning projects.  (click here for more accomplishments) 

    Laura LaFontaine, Denfeld, has received the Health Teacher of the Year Award from the Minnesota Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.   She received the award for her outstanding abilities as a health teacher, her innovative approach, use of the latest technologies, her work as a role model and ability to work with others.     Central High School students Prescott Robinson, Crystal Bowen, Sophia LaFond and Clare Dougan have been named Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.   They are among the top 50,000 high performers who are being recognized for their exceptional academic progress.     Congdon Park School's cafeteria staff earned an Outstanding Food Service Operation certificate from the St. Louis County Public Health and Services Department.   The award is given to facilities that put forth exemplary effort to protect the health and safety of their customers and consistently meet or exceed accepted standards of operation.   (click here for more accomplishments)...
